Job Responsibilities

Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
Assist in the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines.
Ensure a safe and clean working environment.
Assist in providing patient-specific education regarding adequacy measures and disease processes.
Welcome assigned patients and evaluate their well-being since their last treatment.
Perform vascular access cannulation and administer heparin as delegated by a physician.
Obtain necessary pre and post-treatment vital signs and weights.
Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders, monitor patients' response, and document treatment.
Discontinue dialysis treatment following established procedures.
Apply appropriate dressings and evaluate patients prior to discharge.
Calculate and enter individual patient dialysis machine programming.
Ensure that appropriate safety alarms are enabled.
Document accurate and timely information regarding vital signs and treatment parameters.
Report significant information and changes in patient conditions to the registered nurse.
Document interventions and responses for unusual patient statuses.
Obtain prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens for collection.
Ensure that all blood spills are cleaned immediately with disinfectant.
Assist in training direct patient care staff.
Follow organization policies and procedures regarding ethical business practices.
Maintain environmental integrity and aesthetics.
Conduct preparation tasks for dialysis treatment and document appropriately.
Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
Assist in infection control audits and reinforce education for patients and staff.

Required Skills

Core Skills

Patient care experience
Ability to perform vascular access and cannulation
Documentation skills
Comprehension of dialysis treatment and patient assessment

Preferred Skills

Experience in a hospital setting or related facility
CPR certification
Knowledge of infection control practices

Requirements

Experience: Previous patient care experience preferred.

Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. required.

License & Certification:

CMS-approved state and/or national certification requirements
