Job Responsibilities

Assist in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines.
Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
Welcome assigned patients and inquire about their well-being since their last treatment.
Evaluate vascular access for patency and perform vascular access cannulation.
Obtain necessary pre and post-treatment vital signs and weight.
Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders, including blood flow and dialysate flow.
Monitor patients’ response to dialysis therapy.
Document all relevant functions necessary for the discontinuation of treatment.
Evaluate the patient prior to discharge and apply appropriate dressings.
Responsible for calculating and entering individual patient dialysis machine programming.
Ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled on the dialysis machines.
Record accurate and timely information regarding vital signs on the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet.
Observe patients and conduct machine safety checks according to facility policy.
Perform and document any intervention for unusual patient status and document patient responses.
Obtain all prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens for collection.
Maintain environmental integrity and aesthetics, ensuring all areas are safe and clean.
Assist in training direct patient care staff on appropriate programs under the supervision of a nurse.
Complete documentation for ongoing participation in Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
Prepare initial patient charts for admission and compile paperwork for appropriate placement.
Follow infection control policies and participate in infection control education.

Required Skills

Core Skills

Knowledge of hemodialysis machine operation
Effective communication and education regarding dialysis therapy

Preferred Skills

Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting
CPR certification
Experience in a related healthcare facility

Requirements

Experience: Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting preferred.

Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. required.

License & Certification:

Must meet CMS-approved state and/or national certification requirements.
