Functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients.
Set up and operate hemodialysis machines.
Assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
Participate in Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Activities.
Assist with patient-related education regarding dialysis treatment and disease processes.
Welcome and assess assigned patients regarding their wellbeing since their last treatment.
Evaluate vascular access for patency and perform vascular access cannulation.
Administer heparin as delegated or as allowed by state law.
Obtain pre and post treatment vital signs and weight.
Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders.
Monitor patients’ response to dialysis therapy and document treatment parameters.
Discontinue dialysis treatment according to established procedures.
Ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled on dialysis machines.
Document patient treatment information accurately and in a timely manner.
Assist in the training of direct patient care staff under the supervision of a nurse.
Maintain cleanliness of dialysis equipment and surrounding areas.
Complete infection control audits and support adherence to infection control practices.
Follow newly admitted patients through their first 4 weeks of dialysis and coordinate care.
Assist patients in understanding treatment options and home dialysis products.

Experience: Previous patient care experience preferred.

Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. required.

License & Certification:

Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved certification requirements
State licensure as required
