Job Responsibilities
- Perform basic monitoring functions with the central monitoring station including admitting and discharging from the Central Monitor.
- Assign arrhythmia monitoring as needed and adjust alarm limits at the RN's direction.
- Validate alarms, change paced status, and turn alarms on/off as required.
- Print strip recordings at intervals per routine orders and of alarms, ensuring any changes in conduction, rhythm, or rate requiring immediate attention are reviewed by an RN.
- Mount routine and alarm records for review by nursing staff.
- Post reviewed strip sheets to the appropriate patient chart (CICU) or unit (PCU or telemetry) daily.
- Troubleshoot monitor problems and contact Bio Med for repairs as necessary.
- Page appropriate floor to notify nursing staff of assessments required for patient arrhythmia or other alerts.
- Assemble and maintain current patient charts; break down patient charts on dismissal.
- Post appropriate reports to patient charts and keep charts supplied with adequate Doctor’s Order Sheets.
- Monitor patient charts for new orders and notify nursing personnel of orders requiring immediate attention.
- Scan, fax, transcribe physician orders per hospital policy, and notify departments or staff of ordered tests, procedures, consults, and equipment repairs.
- Perform receptionist and secretarial support for the unit including greeting and directing visitors, clergy, and health care personnel.
- Utilize telephone and paging systems, answer patient call systems, and relay calls and messages appropriately.
- Complete clerical duties including posting charges, ordering supplies, filing, and printing forms.
- Generate and maintain work orders to Plant Operations and Maintenance.
- Clean and maintain specialized equipment as directed.
- Restock CICU rooms and/or designated areas.
- Answer call lights to determine patient needs and respond or relay requests to the responsible RN.
- Transfer patients, beds, and care equipment while adhering to safety requirements.
- Transport dismissed patients as needed, making appropriate stops according to dismissal procedures.
- Assist in unit activities such as meal tray checking and passing as necessary.
Required Skills

- Ability to read and write English
- Comprehend and communicate complicated verbal and written instructions
- Basic arithmetic skills for supply ordering and heart rate calculation
- Interpersonal skills to gather and exchange information courteously
- Analytical skills to recognize, interpret, and report life-threatening changes on monitors
Preferred Skills
- Experience with heart rhythms and central station monitors
- Knowledge of order transcription and computer order entry
- Ability to organize work and interpret data related to patient transport
- Ability to handle high noise levels and manage patient care requests
Requirements
