Job Responsibilities

  • Performs direct and indirect patient care activities under the supervision of a registered professional nurse.
  • Assists in providing high quality, cost-effective care by performing delegated tasks.
  • Interacts proactively with patients, families, and other customers to ensure a family-centered experience.
  • Provides basic physical care to promote patient comfort as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living timely, including making all assigned beds.
  • Safely transports patients to tests and procedures, and escorts patients for discharge.
  • Transports specimens and items throughout the facility.
  • Performs assigned tests such as glucose monitoring, urine and stool testing, and maintains quality control testing & logs.
  • Obtains and records assigned patient metrics including temperatures, pulse rates, and blood pressures.
  • Provides respiratory support by setting up necessary equipment for oxygen administration.
  • Encourages the use of Incentive Spirometer according to Respiratory Care procedure.
  • Observes and reports all patient concerns/changes in condition to a registered nurse.
  • Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedure.
  • Assists physicians and registered nurses with examinations and procedures.
  • Assists with basic rehab/Physical Therapy activities.
  • Communicates with RN regarding any nutrition issues.
  • Provides total care within scope of practice when assigned as a sitter or constant visual responsibilities.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment to help prevent/control infections.
  • Maintains clean assigned unit equipment according to departmental procedures.
  • Reports necessary equipment repairs in a timely manner.
  • Assists in routine unit operations for smooth communication and functioning of the unit.
  • Courteously answers telephone, call bells, and relays messages in a timely manner.
  • Completes errands promptly as requested.
  • Removes out-of-date items.

  • Demonstrates competency in the use of Safe Patient Handling equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Good time management skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Prior patient care experience.

Requirements

Experience: Preferred experience in patient care.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

License & Certification:

  • Certification in Basic Life Support or HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire.

Schedule:

  • Scheduled for 24 hours weekly.
