Job Responsibilities

  • Assess human responses and plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for individuals or families.
  • Provide leadership in a professional practice setting.
  • Contribute to building the team by helping others succeed through role modeling and mentoring.
  • Assign or delegate tasks based on the needs of the patient and skill level of the RN, LPN, or support staff.
  • Assign duties and lunches for staff while performing charge role.
  • Consider maintenance of a safe environment, patient condition, complexity of interventions, and predictability of outcomes.
  • Provide peers with verbal and written feedback regarding clinical practice and role performance.
  • Share knowledge and skills with peers and colleagues.
  • Create a culture of accepting mistakes and risk-taking.
  • Participate on interdisciplinary teams to evaluate clinical care or health services.
  • Promote patient safety initiatives, such as National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Participate in department-specific quality initiatives, such as evidence-based practice (EBP) for specific populations.
  • Ensure appropriate order sets are used.
  • Supervise, delegate, and evaluate assigned LPN scope of practice as appropriate.
  • Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, evaluate, and implement patient plans of care according to individual needs.
  • Derive culturally and age-appropriate expected outcomes involving the patient, family, and healthcare providers.
  • Analyze health status of individuals and families to determine patient care needs.
  • Assess patient reports/records for change of condition and notify physician and/or supervisor, intervening appropriately.
  • Accept assignments in areas other than primary unit and perform duties within individualized competency.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous lifelong learning for self and others.
  • Promote advancement of the profession through participation in professional organizations.
  • Seek formal and independent learning activities using current research findings for skill development.
  • Participate in systematic peer review and gather informal feedback regarding own practice.
  • Identify areas of strength and areas in need of professional development.
  • Meet time and attendance guidelines per hospital policy.
  • Continuously evaluate and assess patient and family satisfaction.
  • Participate in department-specific patient satisfaction initiatives.
  • Promote compassionate communication that is patient and family-centered.
  • Assess for and attempt to resolve patient/family concerns.
  • Utilize effective time management skills to complete assigned duties within established work shifts.

Required Skills

  • Current PA RN licensure or current multi-state licensure through eNLC
  • CPR certification
