Job Responsibilities

Provides direct patient care within the ambulatory setting, based on the nursing process.
Performs preliminary assessment of patients through observation and chart review.
Evaluates unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitates appropriate intervention.
Implements appropriate clinical decisions and demonstrates appropriate use of expert peers and/or management.
Accepts accountability and uses independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and delegated health care providers.
Demonstrates effective use of resources and evaluation of patient response in the delivery of patient care.
Bases decisions/actions taken on relevant scientific principles and established standards of care.
Seeks assistance/credible resource when unable to perform safely and independently.
Updates daily care plan to include appropriate algorithms for safe patient handling.
Responsible for educational instruction to patients and families regarding health care needs.
Identifies teaching/learning needs of patient.
Evaluates effectiveness of patient and family teaching and documents in patient charts.
Assists in orientation of new employees according to unit orientation plan.
Applies information gained from educational experiences in patient care and instruction.
Assumes responsibility for the development of others.
Engages in mentoring and networking activities to promote professional development.
Fosters the integration of staff and/or students into the health care team.
Facilitates incorporation of the unit's mission, values, and vision.
Demonstrates skill in management of conflict situations.
Functions to promote trusting relationships and open, honest communication at the unit level.
Participates in Performance Improvement activities as appropriate.

Requirements

Experience:

Education: Current West Virginia licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse or a Graduate Nurse with a current West Virginia temporary practice permit.
