Job Responsibilities
- Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating and directing the day-to-day operations of the Nursing Services department.
- Interpret and communicate policies and procedures to nursing staff, and monitor staff practices and implementation.
- Participate in all admission decisions as indicated.
- Participate in daily or weekly management team meetings to discuss census changes, resident changes in status, complaints or concerns.
- Assist in evaluating work performance of all nursing personnel and implement discipline according to operational policies.
- Participate in QAPI or facility assessment activities as needed.
- Facilitate, serve, attend or participate in various committees of the facility as appointed.
- Ensure delivery of compassionate quality care and nursing supervision.
- Collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary team, physicians, consultants, and community agencies.
- Assist with oversight of nursing schedules to ensure resident needs, regulatory and budget standards are met.
- Participate in the recruitment, hiring and termination of nursing personnel as indicated.
- Perform rounds to observe residents and ensure nursing needs are being met.
- Conduct observations of nursing care and supervise development of in-service education for nursing staff.
- Promote teamwork, mutual respect, and effective communication.
- Monitor, assist and implement the infection control program.
- Participate in budget development for the nursing department.
- Assist in preparing inspection surveys and participate in mock surveys.
- Participate in the facility’s plan of correction response to an inspection survey.
- Communicate directly with residents, medical and nursing staff, family members, and department heads.
- Assist in oversight of resident incidents and concerns daily.
- Monitor for allegations of potential abuse or neglect and participate in the investigative process.
- Promote safe work practices and accident prevention procedures.
- Provide direct nursing care as necessary.
- Act in an administrative/management capacity in the absence of the Director of Nursing and/or Administrator.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Current unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in practicing state
- Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures
- Current CPR certification
- Leadership and supervisory ability
- Ability to make independent decisions
- Ability to communicate effectively
Preferred Skills
- Experience in a long-term care facility
- Experience with budget development
- Experience in performance improvement activities
Requirements
Experience: Minimum of three (1) years of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, nursing home, or other related health care facility
Education: Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university
License & Certification:
- Current unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse (RN)
- Current CPR certification
