Job Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive care to ECMO patients, including initial assessments and care plan development.
- Adjust ECMO settings based on clinical indicators.
- Monitor ECMO parameters daily and troubleshoot issues.
- Respond to complications such as bleeding, clotting, and infection.
- Perform bedside procedures in line with institutional guidelines.
- Partner with intensivists, perfusionists, and nursing staff to optimize patient outcomes.
- Act as a liaison between the healthcare team and patients’ families, providing education on ECMO therapy.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and interpret lab results to guide patient care decisions.
- Request, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic and laboratory tests as medically indicated.
- Identify and report any specific signs, symptoms, or problems requiring further assessment.
- Work autonomously and collaboratively to diagnose and manage clients' health care problems.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience in critical care.
- Strong knowledge of ECMO principles.
- Ability to perform advanced procedures like arterial lines and intubations.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Proficiency in managing high-acuity patients.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Outstanding customer service and conflict resolution abilities.
- Current licensure as APRN or PA in Florida.
Preferred Skills
- Direct ECMO experience preferred.
- Experience in cardiac critical care, pulmonology, cardiothoracic surgery, or advanced heart failure.
- ECMO Specialist certification preferred.
Requirements
Experience: Minimum 2 years as provider in critical care.
Education: Acute Care or Adult Gerontology Acute Care required for APRNs.
License & Certification:
- Current licensure as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant in Florida.
- National certification is required for PAs.
- ACLS & BLS certification (American Heart Association).
