Job Responsibilities

  • Manage comprehensive and individualized care for cardiology/electrophysiology patients and their families in the inpatient phase of hospitalization and immediate post discharge in the ambulatory setting.
  • Complete daily rounds; consult and/or pre-procedure evaluations.
  • Participate in electrophysiology conduction studies including management/monitoring of implantable devices.
  • Complete integrated assessments and, with collaboration of cardiology/electrophysiology faculty, order additional tests or consults as deemed appropriate.
  • Perform and communicate results of diagnostic tests following established clinical guidelines and scope of practice.
  • Consult and communicate with clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings in the evaluations of patients.
  • Perform succinct comprehensive clinical evaluations and document findings in the medical record.
  • Develop a comprehensive individualized plan of care for cardiology/electrophysiology patients, including teaching, discharge planning, and ongoing monitoring of implantable devices.
  • Identify unstable or complex cardiology/electrophysiology patient care situations and facilitate appropriate interventions.
  • Recognize emergency situations and initiate effective emergency care.
  • Evaluate cardiology/electrophysiology patients and serve as a coordinator for follow-up procedures and tests in the ambulatory setting.
  • Assist in the collection of outcome measures as applicable.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in clinical decision-making.
  • Provide educational programs to professional and paraprofessional personnel in area of expertise.
  • Participate in community programs and distribution of literature as appropriate in the area of expertise.
  • Document plan of care, interventions and evaluations in a clear and concise manner for every patient visit.
  • Collaborate with leaders and staff to effectively achieve patient outcome-based improvements in care.
  • Provide leadership in the development and implantation of changes in the cardiology/electrophysiology practice.
  • Initiate inter-disciplinary approaches to patient care, program development and education.

Required Skills

  • Coordination and clinical skills in comprehensive management of cardiology/electrophysiology patients
  • Critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills
  • Proficiency with computers
  • Strong communication skills

Preferred Skills

  • AGACNP certification for Nurse Practitioners
  • Cardiology/electrophysiology or acute care experience
  • Educational background and experience in teaching nursing staff, hospital staff, students, and patients

Requirements

Experience: Preferably in cardiology/electrophysiology or acute care; eligible new graduates will be considered.

Education: Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master’s Degree in Nursing for Nurse Practitioners; Bachelor's or Master's Degree as Physician Assistant required.

License & Certification:

  • National Certification from recognized APRN Certification Centers for Nurse Practitioners
  • Licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia for Nurse Practitioners
  • Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants for Physician Assistants
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification
