Job Responsibilities

  • Manage comprehensive and individualized care for neurology patients and their families.
  • Complete daily rounds; consult and/or pre-procedure/evaluations.
  • Complete integrated assessments and order additional tests as appropriate.
  • Perform and communicate results of diagnostic tests.
  • Consult and communicate with clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings.
  • Perform comprehensive clinical evaluations and document findings in medical records.
  • Facilitate patient discharge by coordinating appropriate services and tests prior to discharge.
  • Develop a comprehensive individualized plan of care for neurology patients.
  • Identify unstable or complex neurology patient care situations and facilitate intervention.
  • Recognize emergency situations and initiate effective emergency care.
  • Evaluate neurology patients and coordinate follow-up procedures in the ambulatory setting.
  • Assist in the collection of outcome measures as applicable.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in clinical decision-making.
  • Utilize teaching/learning theory in the provision of education to nursing staff and students.
  • Promote an environment that facilitates learning by responding to patient/family preferences.
  • Document the plan of care, interventions, and evaluations clearly for every patient visit.
  • Collaborate with other leaders and staff for patient outcome-based improvements in care.
  • Provide leadership in the development and implantation of changes in neurology practice.
  • Work collaboratively with medical and nursing staff; facilitate problem-solving and support.
  • Participate and initiate inter-disciplinary approaches to patient care and education.
  • Serve as a professional role model and promote innovation in the delivery of care.
  • Participate and provide leadership for committees and task forces.
  • Document hours and submit billing reports as appropriate.
  • Review and interpret neurology data from sources such as patient registries.
  • Participate in clinical trials and research studies as needed.

Required Skills

Core Skills

  • Coordination and clinical skills for comprehensive management of neurology patients
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficiency with computers
  • Critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills

Preferred Skills

  • ACNP preferred but will also consider FNPs
  • Experience in acute care or neurology

Requirements

Experience: Acute care or neurology experience preferred; eligible new graduates considered.

Education: Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master’s Degree in Nursing or Bachelor’s Degree as a Physician Assistant.

License & Certification:

  • National Certification by recognized APRN Certification Centers or National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification
  • Additional Advanced Life Support training at departmental discretion
