Job Responsibilities

  • Provide supervisory leadership to staff level employees, coordinating activities with the department’s Manager.
  • Participate in performance appraisal of staff on applicable shift.
  • Participate in the hiring process, including providing hiring recommendations to the Manager.
  • Prepare documentation for possible disciplinary actions and make recommendations to the Manager.
  • Provide recommendations to the Manager for commendations, bonuses, or other appropriate forms of recognition for outstanding performance of employees on applicable shift.
  • Make work assignments and direct work activities.
  • Coordinate staff relief for meals, breaks, and meetings.
  • Project staffing needs for the next two shifts and coordinate adjustments in staffing level as needed.
  • Serve as clinical resource for all staff.
  • Check the emergency crash cart or ascertain that the cart has been checked.
  • Provide shift report to next Shift Leader or Charge Nurse.
  • Participate in making work schedules.
  • Complete all charge nurse duties as specified in nursing policy.
  • Demonstrate competency in critical skills, including addressing age-specific needs of the patient population served.
  • Provide professional nursing care on assigned unit.
  • Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Complete required education assignments annually.
  • Work toward achieving goals and objectives and participate in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
