Position: Part of the dialysis healthcare team providing safe and effective dialysis therapy

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Setup and operate hemodialysis machines.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
  • Support the organization commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Assist in providing detailed education regarding adequacy measures to patients.
  • Welcome assigned patients and inquire about their well-being since the last treatment.
  • Evaluate vascular access for patency and perform vascular access cannulation.
  • Administer heparin as delegated or allowed by state law.
  • Obtain pre and post treatment vital signs and weight.
  • Monitor patients’ response to dialysis therapy and document treatment parameters.
  • Discontinue dialysis treatment according to established procedures.
  • Evaluate patients’ vascular access during treatment and document findings.
  • Obtain prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens for collection.
  • Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surfaces and surrounding areas according to facility policy.
  • Assist in training direct patient care staff on appropriate programs under the supervision of a nurse.
  • Complete and document participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.

  • Knowledge of dialysis machines and treatment processes

  • Strong communication skills for patient education
  • Documentation skills for patient treatments

Preferred Skills

  • Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility
  • Knowledge of infection control practices
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Requirements

Experience: null

Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. required.

License & Certification:

  • Must meet CMS-approved state and/or national certification requirements
  • CPR certification

Schedule:

  • No Overnight, Sunday or on-call shifts
  • Major holidays off (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Days)
