Job Responsibilities
- Integrates biopsychosocial concepts and provides competent, evidence-based care on the Inpatient Mental Health (MH) and/or Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MHRRTP).
- Proficiently cares for Veterans diagnosed with mental health and/or substance use disorders.
- Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care considering cultural characteristics, age, state of health, race, and previous experiences.
- Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team under the supervision of the assigned Nurse Manager.
- Utilizes best practices in assessing and managing Veterans at risk for suicide.
- Adheres to established policies and guidelines for medication administration.
- Maintains professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerabilities.
- Participates actively in the MH interdisciplinary treatment team and psychiatric emergencies.
- Facilitates shift reports and nurse-led psychoeducational groups.
- Employs therapeutic communication techniques and de-escalation strategies.

Requirements
Experience: 2-3 years of recent mental health experience and 1 year of acute care experience
Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing
License & Certification:
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth
Schedule:
COVID-19 Requirements: Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel.
