Job Responsibilities
- Lead the planning of care and implementation of the nursing process.
- Plan unit workflow and determine priorities.
- Schedule, assign, oversee, and review work.
- Make recommendations for personnel actions such as selection, discipline, and performance.
- Conduct or assist in conducting performance evaluations.
- Lead professional and paraprofessional nursing staff in the provision of patient/individual care.
- Maintain and promote standards of nursing.
- Ensure controlled drugs are properly stored, administered, and ordered.
- Identify staff development needs.
- Provide staff training and assistance.
- Instruct staff regarding policies and procedures.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to promote and ensure adjustment and continuity of patient/individual care programs.
- Respond to emergencies.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Considerable knowledge of nursing principles, techniques, and standards.
- Knowledge of medications, their actions, interactions, uses and side effects.
- Knowledge of general and mental health conditions and treatment interventions.
- Considerable interpersonal skills.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with other professionals.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working in a behavioral health hospital setting.
- Experience serving youth with complex psychiatric profiles.
Requirements
Experience: Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in nursing may be substituted for one year of experience.
License & Certification:
- Incumbents must possess and retain a license or temporary permit as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut.
Schedule:
- Scheduled Days Off: Week 1: Monday; Week 2: Saturday, Sunday, Thursday.
- Second and third shift positions may be subject to additional compensation.
