Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with psychiatric and medical nursing care under supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Observe, report, and document patients’ behavior, physical condition, and reactions to medications.
  • Provide input into planning patient treatment plans.
  • Monitor and intervene to ensure a safe and therapeutic patient milieu.
  • Provide immediate crisis intervention when needed.
  • Engage with patients to establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship.
  • Support patients in accomplishing activities of daily living through monitoring and direct assistance.
  • Prepare patients by explaining actions and interventions before providing care.
  • Assist RN and MHC to complete precaution levels and accountability sheets.
  • Document observations, care provided, and patient responses as per hospital policy.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with patients and families.
  • Communicate with nurses and staff to provide updates on patient status.
  • Escort patients to appointments and transport within the community.
  • Support a safe and therapeutic treatment environment through effective Milieu Management.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of the work environment for patients.
  • Monitor, identify, and address safety violations in patient care areas.
  • Engage patients in unit activities and communicate any concerns to the registered nurse.
  • Assist with preparing and serving meals, observing for choke risk, and documenting intake and output.
  • Maintain and update skills, knowledge, and competencies through training and supervision.
  • Participate in team meetings and share learning with others.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Ability to provide direct patient care.

  • Ability to monitor and interpret vital signs.

Preferred Skills

  • CNA License.
  • Experience working in a mental or behavioral health setting.
  • Experience assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) care.

Requirements

Experience: One year experience in a mental health or inpatient hospital setting.

Education: High School Diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED).

License & Certification:

  • Current, valid certification as a Nurse Aide (CNA)
  • Current, valid licensure as a Practical Nurse (LPN)

Schedule:

  • Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
  • May work days, evenings, and nights.
