Job Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the leadership team to create a work environment that engages staff in the attainment of department and organizational goals.
- Promote high quality, safe patient care and maximize patient flow.
- Provide clinical guidance during the staffing process.
- Assist in long range planning for resource distribution prioritization.
- Participate in the development and training of staff to ensure common understanding of clinical and technical knowledge.
- Assist with the assessment of learning/educational needs of staff and develop teaching tools to meet identified needs.
- Evaluate and assist in data gathering to identify major issues related to delays, unanticipated events, and trends in patient care.
- Assign, direct, and review the work of subordinate supervisors and other nursing personnel.
- Prepare formal responses to grievances and recommend adjustments to disciplinary matters.
- Participate in reviewing, monitoring, developing, and implementing quality indicators.
- Evaluate practice protocols and procedures using quality care and cost outcome indicators.
- Serve as a resource internally and externally, establishing regular communication processes with physicians, nurses, and management.
- Identify and utilize strategies to monitor and evaluate resource management decisions.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois
- Two years of professional nursing experience
- Five years of clinical experience, preferably in an academic healthcare setting
- Three years of relevant clinical experience in procedural areas (e.g., IR/Cath lab/PACU)
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN)
- Minimum two years' experience as a nursing supervisor or nursing leader
- National certification through ANCC or an approved certifier within 6 months of hire
- Current CPR/ACLS and PALS certification
- Effective communication skills (oral and written)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Advanced computer skills, specifically in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
Preferred Skills
- Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or Business
Requirements
Experience: Two years of professional nursing experience; five years of clinical experience; three years of relevant clinical experience in procedural areas.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) required.
License & Certification:
- Registered Professional Nurse licensure in Illinois
- Nationally certified through ANCC or relevant certifier within 6 months of hire
- Current CPR/ACLS and PALS certification
